Melittin

Melittin is an immune-related PLA2-stimulating peptide from bee venom that increases the activity of high-molecular-weight enzymes. Melittin is a cytotoxic peptide derived from bee venom. Melittin has natural antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. It has also been shown to have multiple anticancer effects in several different cancer cell lines, including gastric, breast, ovarian, liver, prostate, cervical, and lung cancer cell lines. Melittin, an amphipathic hemolytic peptide, exerts its potential anticancer effects through inhibition of cell proliferation, induction of apoptosis and direct necrosis. Melittin can also prevent EGF-induced cell invasion by inhibiting PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway, but this is mainly associated with breast cancer cells
